The East Algarve has seen development spread at a slower pace than the rest of
the region, ensuring it has retained much of its natural character. This is typified in the beautiful coastline where the tidal marshes are a vital part of the Rio Formosa National Park. Wonderful sand flats protect the marshes and the small resorts dotted around the area seem as though they could be frozen in time. Further inland you get a real flavour of traditional life in the Algarve with the unspoiled countryside waiting to be discovered.

Where tourist areas are becoming more prominent they have been blended in discreetly with the local area but are still generating an increase in tourism.
